June 28 - July 2, 2008

This year’s
national conference took place at the prestigious Rosen Shingle Creek
Resort. Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel is situated on 230 acres of lush
landscape, Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando is Central Florida’s newest and
most luxurious meeting destination. The stunning grand lobby welcomes you
into a world of lavish choices, complete with luxury accommodations,
enticing restaurants and a championship golf course. WV TSA students
had opportunities to visit Universal Orlando® Resort, SeaWorld® Adventure
Park, Walt Disney World® and other Orlando Florida attractions nearby.
The
conference took place over a five-day period from June 28th-July
2nd.
West Virginia TSA members boarded the bus to Orlando at late
afternoon on June 27th. Most arrived around noon on June 28th and immediately began
exploring the hotel, pools, game-room and Orlando attractions such as
Universal Studio and Sea World. Our first night began with the
mixer, where we exchanged pins with 48 other states and danced the night
away..
Competition started bright and early the next day, and continued fast and
furious for the next three days. We had a few evenings off, and advisors
planned trips for students to more Orlando attractions. One evening
was celebrated on a sad note as WV TSA Advisors, Denny Powell and Robert
Shaver, will not be returning next school term. Mr. Powell retired
and Mr. Shaver has accepted a technology position in his county.
Their leadership and expertise will be greatly missed. We wish both
success and hope they will reflect upon the great times during their many
years as TSA Advisors with fond memories. They were both presented a
Rosen Shingle Resort tee-shirt for a keep sake of their last great TSA
adventure.
Among general sessions, competitions, trips,
and great food, students had a great time! By the end of the conference,
everyone was
exhausted! West Virginia was proud to have 12 finalists and two trophy
winners! |
